Kevin S. Chen, M.D., F.A.A.N.S., F.C.N.S. is the Frances and Kenneth Eisenberg Emerging Scholar and serves as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and of Neurology at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Chen completed his neurosurgery residency at Michigan Medicine and a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Stanford University. Dr. Chen specializes in treating brain and nerve-network conditions by targeting misfiring circuits and using neuromodulation — implantable devices that deliver gentle electrical pulses — to reduce symptoms. His clinical focus includes treating people who have movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, as well as people who have chronic pain conditions. He also has expertise in the surgical treatment of epilepsy, including nerve stimulators and responsive brain devices, minimally invasive monitoring, and laser therapy. His research interest focuses on using cell-based approaches to modify hyperactive circuits in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
