Mariano Pablo Socolovsky MD, PhD
Dr. Mariano Socolovsky serves as the chairman and head of the Division of Neurosurgery at the Hospital de Clínicas of the University of Buenos Aires. He is also a Head Professor of Neurosurgery at the same university. He leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to treating peripheral nerve surgical issues, which includes five neurosurgeons, one orthopedic surgeon, two imaging specialists, and three rehabilitation specialists. He has extensive experience with brachial plexus, facial nerve, and sciatic nerve injuries, among others. His scientific research on brain plasticity after nerve transfers, including the development of the “Plasticity Grading Score” (PGS), a clinical scale for measuring the level of brain plasticity achieved by patients, was published in leading medical journals and is regarded as a milestone in validating brain changes following various procedures across different populations.
Dr. Socolovsky remains an active worldwide destination surgeon and educator. Over the past 20 years, he has trained a generation of surgeons globally in peripheral nerve surgery techniques, including more than 80 trainees from four continents. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, 14 textbooks, and 60 book chapters. He has delivered more than 300 lectures internationally and has been a guest speaker at numerous global meetings and societies. His Hirsch index is 27 (Google Scholar, Jan 2026), and his work has been cited more than 2,100 times.
Dr. Socolovsky has served on the boards of numerous local, regional, and continental scientific societies, including as President of the Argentine Association of Neurosurgery (2022-2024) and as Chair of the Peripheral Nerve Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (2013-2019). He is a member of the Sunderland Society and NervClub (Germany), among others, specializing in the field.
Dr. Socolovsky has been invited as a Guest Professor and lecturer at prestigious universities, including UCLA (2023), UPenn (2024), and Johns Hopkins (2025).
