Resident
University of Calgary
Dr. Catherine Veilleux earned her MD and MSc from the University of Sherbrooke in Québec, Canada, before completing neurosurgical residency at the University of Calgary. She is currently a senior neurosurgery resident and enrolled in the Clinician-Investigator Program, where she is pursuing graduate training in biomedical engineering with a focus on translational neurovascular research.
Dr. Veilleux’s academic work centers on cerebrovascular neurosurgery, with particular interest in endovascular innovation, aneurysm modeling, device evaluation, and clinical outcomes research. Her current research integrates experimental vascular models with translational clinical studies aimed at optimizing flow diversion strategies and advancing evidence-based cerebrovascular care. In parallel, she is leading a prospective feasibility study evaluating standardized microsurgical evacuation techniques for lobar intracerebral hemorrhage, incorporating intraoperative analytics to better characterize surgical performance and patient outcomes. Through this work, she seeks to bridge operative technique, technology integration, and outcomes science in hemorrhagic stroke care. She is committed to building a career as a dual-trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon–scientist, combining technical excellence in both open and endovascular surgery with rigorous, clinically impactful research.
Dr. Veilleux is also engaged in health equity initiatives within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and is an advocate for mentorship and representation in neurosurgery. Outside of medicine, Dr. Veilleux enjoys endurance sport and has completed eight marathons, in addition to qualifying for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 World Championships. She values the discipline and perspective that long-distance training brings to her clinical and academic work.
