Professor of Neurosurgery

Dr. Mark G Hamilton, FRCSC, is currently a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary. He graduated from McGill University Medical School in 1983. He completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of Calgary and completed fellowship training in cerebrovascular, skull base, and pediatric neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. He started his career in Calgary in 1994, where he is currently a Professor of Neurosurgery with additional appointments in the Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics. He served as the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery from 2002 to 2011. Additionally, he was President of the Canadian Neurosurgical Society from 2004 to 2006, and of the Canadian Congress of Neurological Sciences (CCNS) and then the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (CNSF) from 2005 to 2007.
He established the University of Calgary Adult Hydrocephalus Clinic in 2008, which is now the largest in Canada and one of the largest in North America. Dr. Hamilton is the chair of the Adult Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network (AHCRN), which has 16 clinical sites in three countries, the Past-President of the Hydrocephalus Society, Chair of the Medical Advisory Board (MAB) of the Hydrocephalus Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Hydrocephalus Canada, and a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Hydrocephalus Canada. He is the President and co-founder of the Adult Hydrocephalus, Chiari & ICP Society (AHCIS). He is a co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal *Fluids and Barriers of the CNS*. He previously served as co-chair of the Journal of Neurosurgery Editorial Board and was a member of the Neurosurgery Editorial Board. Recently, he served as a co-Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded PENS trial. His primary clinical and research focus is diagnosing and managing hydrocephalus in adults.
