Petra M Kinge, Professor of Neurosurgry, Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Hasbro Children's Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital
Dr. Petra M. Klinge, MD, PhD, is a German-trained neurosurgeon and internationally recognized expert in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) disorders. She completed her medical education and neurosurgical residency at Hannover Medical School and pursued advanced surgical training at the International Neuroscience Institute.
She is Professor of Neurosurgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and practices at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Her clinical and research work centers on disorders of CSF dynamics across the lifespan, including hydrocephalus, dementia-related neurosurgical conditions, and complex spinal pathologies.
Dr. Klinge has made significant contributions to the understanding and surgical management of Chiari malformation and tethered cord syndrome. Her work emphasizes physiologic mechanisms of CSF flow, craniospinal compliance, and connective tissue–associated vulnerability. She has advocated for careful clinical phenotyping, interdisciplinary evaluation, and thoughtful surgical decision-making in patients with symptomatic Chiari and occult or complex tethered cord presentations.
A former President of the International Society for Hydrocephalus and Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders, Dr. Klinge continues to advance innovation in neurosurgery through research, leadership, and mentorship, shaping modern perspectives on CSF disorders and craniospinal disease.
