Dongwuk Son, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Spine Surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital, Republic of Korea. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in spinal deformity, cervical spine surgery, spinal oncology, and minimally invasive techniques. He completed his medical degree, neurosurgical residency, and doctoral training at Pusan National University and later expanded his academic experience as a clinical research fellow at the University of California, Davis, USA.
Prof. Son has held several leadership roles in major academic societies, including serving as Scientific Committee Chair of the Korean Spinal Neurosurgery Society, Korean Spinal Deformity Society, and Korean Spine Oncology Research Society. He is actively involved in international collaboration and education, frequently participating as an invited speaker and faculty member at global spine meetings. He also serves on the editorial boards of Neurospine and the Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society.
His academic interests focus on surgical decision-making, minimally invasive deformity correction, osteoporosis-related spinal disorders, and strategies to improve spinal fusion outcomes. Clinically, he treats a wide range of spinal conditions, including degenerative disease, tumors, and complex deformities, with an emphasis on evidence-based care and innovation. Through his work as a surgeon, researcher, and educator, Prof. Son continues to contribute to the advancement of modern spine surgery both in Korea and internationally.
