Medical Student
Departamento de Medicina y Nutrición, División de Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad de Guanajuato, Campus León, León, Guanajuato, México
Oscar Eduardo Camacho Hernández is a third-year medical student at the Department of Medicine and Nutrition, Health Sciences Division, University of Guanajuato, Leon Campus, in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, with a strong academic and research background in neurosurgery and neurosciences. He is actively involved in surgical education, leadership, and global neurosurgery initiatives, with plans to pursue a residency in the United States.
He has developed an emerging profile as an independent researcher, co-authoring peer-reviewed publications on neuronal morphology and plasticity, and presenting original work at national and international meetings, including oral presentation acceptance at the 2026 American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Annual Scientific Meeting. With a passion for academic neurosurgery, Oscar has contributed to several systematic reviews and meta-analyses spanning cerebrovascular, skull base, spine, functional, and neuro-oncological neurosurgery, as well as global neurosurgical disparities. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).
Oscar’s formal research training includes a summer research position at the Brain Plasticity and Integrative Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Guanajuato, where he worked with Golgi-Cox–stained rodent brain tissue, conducted Sholl analysis of neuronal dendritic complexity, and learned murine neurosurgical techniques for whole-brain extraction under strict experimental and biosafety protocols. Oscar is disciplined, resilient, and detail-oriented, highlighting his ability to follow complex technical instructions, respect laboratory protocols, and integrate the neurobiological foundations of the methods he uses, as well as his scientific integrity and effective teamwork.
Oscar is an active member of academic and professional student organizations, including Mission:Brain and Pan-American Society of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience Students (SOPENN), through which he promotes health education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and early engagement in research and specialty training.
Beyond medicine, Oscar enjoys swimming, basketball, video games, and virtual reality, interests that help him maintain balance, resilience, and creativity as he works toward a career in academic neurosurgery that integrates clinical care, translational neuroscience, and global neurosurgical outreach
