Jhair Colan is a medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh in May 2022. He is currently completing a dedicated research year at the Brain Nanotechnology Lab at UPMC under the mentorship of Dr. Costas Hadjipanayis, where he studies the effects of 5-ALA–mediated photodynamic therapy on glioblastoma survival, with the goal of advancing this approach as an adjuvant therapy for both primary and recurrent disease. Jhair aspires to become a neurosurgeon-scientist and is deeply interested in developing innovative technologies to improve outcomes for patients with brain tumors. Outside of research and clinical training, he enjoys playing and watching soccer, playing guitar, and boxing.
