    My name is Yifei Sun, BS, and I am a third-year medical student at Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). I have developed a strong passion for neurosurgery, specifically in spine and tumor pathologies. I have a strong interest in both basic science tumor research and neurosurgical clinical research. I also have a strong interest in the socioeconomic determinants of neurosurgical outcomes, leveraging census and area-level exposures to predict variations in surgical results.
    My interest in neurosurgery started during my time in undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, where I conducted research on the gliobastoma microenvironment. My interest in neurosurgery only deepened as I pursued outcomes-focused research. I plan on pursuing neurosurgical residency after medical school.
