Dr. John K. Yue, MD is Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at UCSF, Attending Neurosurgeon at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Affiliate Faculty Member at the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies. He has led surgical management efforts to improve neurotrauma care, with emphases on early intervention, multimodality intracranial monitoring, diagnostic biomarkers, and prognostic tools. He has extensive experience in leading national and international neurotrauma clinical trials. He is a Co-Investigator of the Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury (TRACK-TBI) Network. He serves on expert panels for high-level national efforts including the NIH/NINDS Traumatic Brain Injury Reclassification and Common Data Elements Working Groups, and the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Program TBI Guidelines Committee. He has received funding from the NREF, UCSF Innovation Ventures Catalyst Award, as well as the UCSF Weill Clinician-Scientist Investigator Award. Dr. Yue has been recognized nationally by the AANS/CNS Natus Award (2021, 2023, 2024 x2), National Neurotrauma Society Marmarou Award for TBI Management (2024), San Francisco Neurological Society Hanbery Award for Clinical Neurosurgery (2025), 10+ abstract awards and 40+ oral presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He received the 2025 Naffziger Award for Clinical Service and Patient Care from the UCSF Neurosurgery Department. Dr. Yue has co-authored over 220 peer-reviewed publications including in the Lancet, JAMA, Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurotrauma families, and 7 textbook chapters.
