Julian Michael Burwell completed his dual undergraduate degrees at John Brown University and graduate work in Biochemistry at the University of Colorado. He is currently completing medical training at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), where he conducts research in neurotrauma and neurosurgical management under Dr. Clemens M. Schirmer's mentorship at Geisinger Health Systems. His primary research interests include interpretable machine learning for traumatic brain injury prognostication and quality improvement in neurocritical care, and he is the primary author on 11 papers and editor of 25 book chapters encompassing numerous topics within medical neuroscience literature. As the first member of his family to obtain a four-year degree, he serves as First Generation Chair for the Class of 2027 and is a thesis candidate in the Medical Research Honors Program at GCSOM. He participates in the local chapter of AANS, which he previously led, and regularly volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. Outside of medicine, he is an avid cyclist and enjoys board games with his wife, reading with his son, and playing fetch with his two dogs
