Albert Isaacs, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He is a surgeon-scientist specializing in pediatric hydrocephalus, neonatal brain injury, and complex spinal disorders.
Dr. Isaacs completed his medical training at the University of British Columbia, followed by neurosurgical residency in Calgary, doctoral training in Biomedical Science at Washington University in St. Louis, and pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University. His research integrates genomics, proteomics, and translational neurobiology to advance molecularly targeted therapies for posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus and related conditions.
He directs a multidisciplinary research program within the Abigail Wexner Research Institute, where his work focuses on inflammatory signaling pathways, biomarker discovery, and precision medicine approaches in cerebrospinal fluid disorders. Clinically, Dr. Isaacs specializes in the surgical management of hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations, pediatric spinal deformity, and complex congenital neurosurgical conditions.
Dr. Isaacs is an active member of the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network and contributes to national and international collaborative efforts to improve outcomes in pediatric neurosurgery.
