Russell R. Lonser, M.D., is Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and Director of the Gene therapy Institute at the Ohio State University. Before coming to the Ohio State University, he was Chief of the Surgical Neurology Branch at National Institutes of Health. Dr. Lonser's research interests include development of drug delivery paradigms for nervous system gene therapy and investigating brain tumor pathogenesis. He has authored over 300 research articles and edited 5 neurosurgical textbooks. He is a co-inventor on a patent for methods for convection-enhanced delivery of therapeutic agents. He has co-founded 3 companies in gene therapy and drug delivery. Currently, he is Chair of the American Board of Neurological Surgeon, Treasurer of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and Past Chair of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Washington Committee. Previously, he served as President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and Chair of the NFL Head, Neck and Spine Research Committee. He is serving or has served on the Editorial Boards for NEUROSURGERY (Associate Editor), World Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurosurgery (Co-Chaired Editorial Board). He is Co-Editor for Neurosurgery Clinics of North America. Previously, he was an Academic Editor for PLoS One and Scientific Reports.
