Professor Rachel Grossman, MD, is a neurosurgeon specializing in the surgical management of brain tumors and skull base pathology. She served as Director of the Brain Tumor Center and Vice Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Rambam Health Care Campus, affiliated with the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.
Professor Grossman completed her neurosurgical residency at Sheba Medical Center, Israel, and subsequently joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. During her time at Johns Hopkins, she led and participated in innovative translational and clinical research projects focused on novel therapeutic strategies for brain tumors. This experience laid the foundation for her ongoing interest in integrating advanced technologies and biological insights into neurosurgical oncology.
Upon joining Rambam Health Care Campus, Professor Grossman established a comprehensive clinical and academic program emphasizing brain tumor surgery, pituitary and skull base surgery, and technology driven surgical innovation. Her clinical practice focuses on the treatment of complex intracranial tumors, including awake craniotomies with intraoperative cortical and subcortical mapping, white matter tractography, and other advanced techniques aimed at maximizing tumor resection while preserving high cognitive and neurological function. She also has extensive experience in endoscopic endonasal approaches for pituitary and skull base tumors, as well as in the management of complex benign intracranial lesions.
Professor Grossman leads multiple ongoing research projects in collaboration with leading research institutions in Israel, including the Weizmann Institute of Science, and cutting-edge technology collaborations with the Technion, as well as partnerships with academic centers across Europe and USA.
Professor Grossman has authored more than 100 peer reviewed original research articles published in leading international journals and has contributed chapters to major neurosurgical textbooks. She is the recipient of multiple competitive research grants including prestigious Horizon Europe grant, awarded in collaboration with eight European centers.
Professor Grossman has played a significant role in training the next generation of physician-scientists, mentoring neurosurgical residents and medical students from universities across Israel and internationally.
She is an active member of the Tumor Section of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) and has contributed to international clinical practice guidelines through collaborations between the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) and EANS. Professor Grossman serves on executive steering committees and as lead principal investigator for multiple multicenter international clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies sponsored by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. In addition, she acts as a scientific advisor to biotechnology companies and serves on editorial boards and as an editor for leading scientific journals in neurosurgery and neuro-oncology.
Professor Grossman’s academic and clinical work is dedicated to advancing precision, safety, and innovation in neurosurgical oncology through multidisciplinary collaboration, translational research, and education.
