Professor of Neurological Surgery

Dr. Hadjipanayis is the L. Dade Lunsford Professor of Neurological Surgery and serves as the Executive Vice-Chairman for the Dept. of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the Director of the Center for Image-Guided Neurosurgery and serves as Co-Director of the UPMC Brain Tumor Program. Dr. Hadjipanayis also directs the Brain Tumor Nanotechnology Laboratory at the Hillman Cancer Center where his NIH-funded research focuses on developing novel treatments for malignant brain tumors. Dr. Hadjipanayis has helped introduce novel methods of intraoperative detection, surgical removal, and therapy of brain tumors. He is actively involved with resident research mentorship and is the co-PI on the NIH UE5 Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuropathology Pittsburgh Research Education Program (N3 PREP). Dr. Hadjipanayis is also the Chair of the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors leading neurosurgical oncologists and other brain tumor specialists on patient care, educational, and research initiatives globally. He was recently instituted as the inaugural editor-in-chief of the new Journal of Neuro-Oncology Discovery. Dr. Hadjipanayis is an active member of SNO and is an elected member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Neurosurgical Society of America (NSA), and the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS).
