Epilepsy and functional Neurosurgeon, Director of surgical Epilepsy

Dr. Alan Chalil is a functional and epilepsy neurosurgeon at The Ottawa Hospital and an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in physiology and metabolism from the University of Waterloo, followed by medical school at the University of Toronto. During his medical training, he conducted research in Dr. James Rutka’s lab at SickKids, focusing on glioma metabolism in neuro-oncology. Dr. Chalil completed his neurosurgical residency at Western University in London, Ontario, where he developed a clinical interest in epilepsy and functional neurosurgery. He then pursued fellowship training at Emory University, specializing in minimally invasive intracranial surgery for epilepsy, pain, and movement disorders. He currently serves as the Surgical Director of the Epilepsy Program at The Ottawa Hospital. His clinical practice and research are dedicated to the treatment of medically refractory epilepsy and chronic pain
