Dr. David W Polly Jr, is a Professor Emeritus of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota. His undergraduate degree is from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers. He then attended medical school at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He did internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was a surgical researcher in the division of surgery at the Walter reed Army Institute of Research, followed by completing his Orthopedic residency at Walter reed. Upon finishing, he did a Spine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota and then returned to Walter Reed as Chief of Spine Surgery. He then served as chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. Following that, he returned to the University of Minnesota as the Chief of Spine Surgery from 2003 until 2025. He retired from clinical practice in April 2025.
