Associate Professor
University of Alabama Birmingham
I am a neurosurgeon specializing in adult and pediatric spinal deformity and minimally invasive spine surgery. I am originally from San Diego, California, and studied Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley before earning my medical degree and a master’s in statistics and clinical study design at Washington University in St. Louis. I completed neurosurgical residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix and pursued additional fellowship training in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery through the San Diego Spine Foundation, with further pediatric experience at UCSD/Rady Children’s Hospital and global outreach through Global Spine Outreach. I currently serve as an Associate Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery and Program Director for the Neurosurgery Spinal Fellowship, and my clinical research includes multiple peer-reviewed articles relating to spine surgery outcomes and quality.
In my work, I remain committed to evidence-based, patient-centered care, ongoing innovation, and education through active participation in national spine organizations, scholarly publishing, and mentorship of residents and fellows. Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling, skiing, cycling, and exploring practical, technology-driven solutions that can improve healthcare.
